The female genital area has never received so much attention as the last few years. Changing cultural trends have increased interest in improving the appearance of this area because of the rise in popularity of the “Brazilian” look and trends in female fashion towards figure hugging yoga style or sports clothing. Cosmetic surgical procedures seeing increasing popularity include the Brazilian Butt Lift and surgery to alter the appearance of the external genitalia.
Non-surgical procedures are available at cosmetic MD to address a number of female medical complaints such as stress urinary incontinence and to enhance sexual satisfaction. We are also able to offer cosmetic rejuvenation of the genital area with treatments such as platelet rich plasma (PRP) and dermal fillers for labial augmentation.
Please note that the information presented here is of a general nature and does not substitute for a face to face consultation with a medical practitioner.
You must first see a medical practitioner for a consultation to determine your suitability for treatment with anti-wrinkle injections or dermal fillers.
Laser vaginal tightening
At cosmetic MD, we have a painless, walk-in, walk-out non-surgical set of laser procedures that can address the problems of vaginal relaxation (Intimilase) and vaginal atrophy (Renovalase).
As women age, they can notice some changes - a loss of tightness (vaginal relaxation) and dryness of the vaginal lining (vaginal atrophy). Although these are normal features of ageing, until recently, there were limited treatment options apart from hormone replacement and surgery.
Laser treatments are much less invasive than traditional surgical methods for the treatment of vaginal relaxation. There are virtually no complications and is well tolerated by patients. The recovery time is very short. In 2 to 3 days the patient may resume normal sexual activity, and the treatment produces good results in a large percentage of treated patients which may last for a few years.
What is Vaginal Relaxation?
Vaginal relaxation is essentially the loss of the “tightness” of the vagina. This process is due to normal changes in the vaginal lining, laxity of the vaginal muscles and the surrounding support tissues. It is generally associated with natural ageing and is specially affected by childbirth, whether vaginal or not. Multiple pregnancies further increase the alteration of these structures.
During the vaginal relaxation process, the vaginal muscles become relaxed with decreased tone, strength, control and support. The vaginal diameter increases with significant stretching of the vaginal wall and less frictional forces generated during intercourse. This has a detrimental effect on sexual gratification and leads to decreased sexual pleasure.
What is Vaginal Atrophy (atrophic vaginitis)?
With ageing and the loss of hormonal support, the vaginal lining also thins and becomes much drier. This is vaginal atrophy and can cause painful intercourse and bleeding, leading to many women avoiding intercourse altogether.
Until now, effective results for vaginal relaxation could only be achieved through invasive surgical treatments such as anterior and posterior vaginal surgery. There are post-operative complications associated with these procedures and a degree of dissatisfaction with the results. The treatment options for atrophy due to menopause generally involves hormone replacement therapy.
How does the laser work?
The laser works by means of gentle laser induced heating of the vaginal and surrounding pelvic tissue. With a special laser device and specific laser protocols, the laser can painlessly heat the vagina, causing collagen restructuring and regrowth and consequently shrinkage of vaginal and pelvic floor tissue. The vaginal lining thickens and tightens to improve atrophy.
